Games Review - Harry Potter VI

April 30th, 2008

Harry Potter VI

Sixth Harry Potter game

Videogames based on “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” due later this year from the all-conquering Electronic Arts.

No exact release date, you know how these things are, but the press information does refer to the Holiday Season, which for the US means round about November. That’s enough detective work on our part. Let’s see what’s in store for this latest console iteration of the boy wizard’s adventures.

The game is underway at EA’s Bright Light Studio, responsible for previous HP games, and will launch to coincide with the Warner Bros Pictures film. We’re being promised an especially magical version for Nintendo Wii; according to Harvey Elliott, Head of EA Bright Light, “[we are] building on the technological advancements of previous games in the series and with a particular focus on the unique control system of Nintendo’s Wii, the team here is working closely with the filmmakers to create an immersive interactive experience that captures the story, the action, the excitement and, above all, the fun of the film.”

More potion brewing, wizarding duels, and of course Quidditch are wending their way to Wii, DS, PS3, PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, PC, Mac and mobile devices later this year.

Games Review - Prince of Persia Next Gen

April 30th, 2008

Prince of Persia next-gen

Ubisoft is bringing Price of Persia back. This time for next-gen consoles. About time too…

There’s not an awful lot to tell at the moment. The game is currently in development at Ubisoft’s Montreal Studio (POP: Sands of Time) and doesn’t yet have any kind of suffix to its name. It’s due on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and DS towards the back end of the year, though, and according to Ubisoft features new characters, a new storyline and is set to “rejuvenate the action-adventure genre” too. Needless to say they neglect to mention how, exactly.

Other than that it’s fair to say there’s chuff-all in the way of hard info. Indeed, if it were left up to Ubisoft we wouldn’t even have a picture of the game demonstrating its cool new “illustrative art style”. Sheesh, good job somebody’s on the case…!
